Fertigation Systems

Fertigation is a sub-system of the main irrigation system. Fertigation itself is a system that is used to mix, inject, and distribute chemicals, fertilizers, or other products onto the playing surface.

I first started using fertigation when I was an assistant at Victory Ranch Golf Club in Utah. Fertigation systems are a cost-effective way to utilize multiple soluble chemicals for application in the field. Our primary use was for the injection of fertilizers to keep a uniform green color throughout the course.

Plantstar Mixing Valve System
Above is the Plantstar Fertigation mix pump with multiple control valves. These valves are all used in sequence to move, mix, and distribute liquefied products into the irrigation system or via a coupled hose into a spray rig. There are multiple procedures to use depending on the desired location of the product. You also use this to mix and store liquified products to various mix tanks in the pump station.

Plantstar Injection Pump
The picture above is showing the Plantstar injection Pump that is linked via quick coupled hoses to various mix tanks. These mix tanks will have previously been filled with mixes done by the valve system. Once a mix tank is filled with the desired product this injection pump is turned on and set at the desired amount per volume of water distributed by the irrigation system. You also have the option of two small pellet injectors located above each of the pictured buckets. This allows for the injection of solid pellet applications.

Plantstar Injection Pump Controller
The Plantstar Injection Pump Controller is the final piece to the puzzle used for the Fertigation system. This simple control box has multiple functions:

-Mix pump on/off
-Injection Pump on/off
-Injection Pump Prime

Once you have mixed all of your products using the mix pump you simply turn on and prime the Injection pump. Once the irrigation starts to go out for the nightly run the mix pump senses pressure change in the line that is tapped into the main line and injects the proper amount selected.
