Ground Disturbance - Spiker Roller

There are a plethora of ways to shake up your soil matrix. It is important to keep changing that method so that your profile does not develop layering and you maintain a healthy infiltration rate. The method in this post is called a "Spiker Roller". It is a mechanical device that is pulled behind a utility cart. It has a small electric run by the cart's battery to lift and drop the unit.
Lahontan Golf Club Spiker Roller on Event Lawn

Above is a video of the "Spiker Roller" in action at Lahontan Golf Club on the Event Lawn. This lawn was used for many functions including but not limited to Croquet, Yoga, Lawn Bowling, and Weddings. The implement has three weighted rollers lined with small spikes. They penetrate the playing surface 1-2" down and help to incorporate oxygen into the crowns of the plants and organic layers of the soil. It is also used after light topdressing to help move the sand into the crown.
