Greens Repair

While working at Victory Ranch Golf Club we had a number of greens that suffered from desiccation as a result of 8 months of prolonged cold and low snow accumulation. Desiccation occurs when turf is trapped under water and ice for extended periods of time during cold spring months. The damage looks like burnt leaf tips that are a dark gray or black color. Below is a full removal sod repair that was done to the third green at Victory Ranch Golf Club.

Damaged Surface Removed
Above is a picture of the sod after removal with a precision sod cutter and hand tools. It is always important to get the depth perfectly uniform as well as all of your corners straight. The more uniform you make the cutout the easier the new sod will lay in.
New Sod after one week of care.
Above shows that same green with new sod just one week later. Proper topdressing, fertilizer, and water are applied as needed until it can survive on its own. Once the sod takes root you can then begin to aerify the area to help blend the soil types. If you look close the sod is a faint brown color.
